Bodegas Faelo is a family business that was formed in 2000. This is the fourth generation of winemakers in Matola, Elche. Three previous generations were dedicated to the craftsmanship of wine, but did not trade - they did not even consider getting their wines to market bottled. Jaime Soto, owner of Bodegas Faelo, along with his father, decided to go one step further and decided to combine tradition and technological advances in winemaking. From there came the philosophy of the wine cellar. As growers, they were governed by selection in the entire winemaking process. First of all, by selecting the best varieties of grapes, then by selecting the best land for these crops and after that, by selecting the best wines from their cellar for bottling - a long process, involving a great deal of field work. But in 2005, came his first wine bottling - a red wine crianza called La Dama. They currently have three wines on the market: |
- Red wine crianza "La Dama", rated at 88 points Peñin guide, guide to great national and international wines from Spain .. A wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes (60%), Monastrell (30%) and petit verdot (10%). Only a limited number of bottles per year are produced, about 8000 bottles per vintage. After an exhaustive selection of the best wine of the wine cellar, the wine is transferred to American and new French barrels, which hold 225 litres, for 12 months. After that time, only the best wine resulting from the aging in the barrels is bottled and bottle aging gives another twelve months or more before going the wine is marketed.
Faelo wine, in recent years, have a special fiesta in their small family wine cellar in Matola, called the "verema." During the first half of September, surrounded by family and friends, they show visitors how the grapes are picked by hand and after, how the grapes are crushed by treading on them with their feet to the rhythm of a very unique dance within the "afollaor", or old, wooden vessel, where their ancestors trod the grapes with typical rope sandals, to press the wine out of the grapes. They encourage people to participate in this event, which for them is hard work, but well-rewarded, with the final product, the wines of the Faelo wine cellar. We hope that, on tasting our wines, the lady will appreciate the love for tradition and craftsmanship of the winery.
